New book 'HochhausBestand' features interview with Joachim Grund
How do we deal with post-war office high-rises? How can their cultural value be preserved for today's uses?
As part of a research project at the Technical University of Munich on the topic of "Best practice in dealing with high-rise office buildings from the 1950s and 60s", Joachim Grund (Partner at HENN) and Margit Sichrovsky (LXSY Architekten) discuss their experiences in high-rise construction and the challenges of dealing with existing buildings, including both their maintenance and refurbishment.
The book "HochhausBestand", recently published by DETAIL, presents successful strategies and concepts for the revitalization of high-rise office buildings from the 1950s and 60s. The various authors address aspects of both urban planning and heritage conservation. Based on five high-rise buildings in Germany, their refurbishment is comprehensively presented from structural to building physics and building technology solutions.
