Success in tender procedure for Fraunhofer Research Campus
Our design has succeeded in the tender procedure (VgV) for the expansion of the Fraunhofer research campus in Karlsruhe. In future, the campus will provide spaces for interdisciplinary research, development and application of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems. The design proposes the addition of two new buildings connected through bridges to the existing building, forming a coherent complex.
The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft intends to build an interdisciplinary research campus in Karlsruhe to strengthen cooperation between the two Institutes for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) and Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (IOSB). The two new buildings are connected to the existing building via glass bridges. The volumes enclose a inner, green courtyard, which forms the new campus center.
For the office areas, we have developed a flexible “new work” system with different modules that can be distributed as required. For the new building of the IOSB, a two-story testing facility covered with a shed roof is being built in which robotics projects will be tested. Glazed interior walls in the adjoining office and meeting rooms allow direct views of the testing facility. The extension of the Fraunhofer research campus opens up spaces for synergies in interdisciplinary research.
